Arizona Technology Enterprises (AzTE) engaged Ground Floor Partners to help them explore and research market opportunities for an extremely promising technology with multiple patents.

We worked closely with the lead scientist and senior staff in the technology transfer group to conduct a “Blue Sky” analysis. The idea was to come up with a large number of potential applications for the technology across multiple fields including Homeland Security, Defense, Healthcare, Consumer Products, and others. We quickly came up with a list of nearly 100 potential applications. We then organized these applications into groups, and ranked them according to cost of development, competitive environment, market demand, and other factors. We worked closely with the lead scientist and technology transfer group to select 5 top applications for further study.

Results:

Once the top 5 applications were selected, we then conducted a much more rigorous market opportunity assessment for each application. This analysis required multiple interviews with industry experts, combined with in-depth research via trade publications, magazines, newspapers, as well as specialized market research reports. The end result was a set of detailed reports on each application. Our final deliverables included a 50-page market research report and a larger compilation of supplementary materials (key articles and excerpts of detailed research reports). The technology transfer group selected one of the 5 applications and is now in the process of commercializing the technology. Based on Ground Floor Partners’ work, the technology transfer group determined that the most promising application was asthma detection. AzTE is now working with third parties to commercialize this technology.
